Today we had the fortune of doing a hip smoker of a WOD.

10 Med Ball Cleans

10 Burpees

7 Rounds

In talking with some of you who are progressing at a great pace it seems as though the results may not be as noticeable to you as they are to us as we watch you improve.

Before standing in front of your mirror at home and wondering when the extra weight is going to “fall off”, I would remind you of your first workout that you participated in. Most, who are new to the program, begin and start to wonder, “What the hell am I doing here”. You fight off the light headed, dizzy, nauseating movements and move forward into your next round or movement of the days’ WOD. You laid on the floor after with little color in your face and gasping for the breath which seemed to elude you.

Then came a month or two or even three down the road. We see you jumping firmly onto a 20 inch plyo box which you originally had difficulty stepping up on. We see you make strides in your pullups in going from jumping to the smaller bands and eventually onto grasping the technique of the kip. We see you bring your friends, family, co-workers in to see “what you have been doing” lately. We have seen you make immense progress in you ability to preform the WOD’s and to also excel in your overall performance at every aspect that comes with being in better shape.

The mirror tells you how you look at the moment when you wake up or before you go to bed. Trust in the people around you and your trainers here to tell you how much you’re improving. Outsiders see you less often than you see yourself. Your improvements will be much more visible to them.

  1. Justin says:

    10:39. tough little workout.

  2. Bayan says:

The very first time I did a CF workout I had been lifting religiously and doing some traditional cardio. I thought I was in pretty good shape and for 95% of the globo gym population I probably was.

I didn’t finish that first workout.

I got through a few rounds and I lay there on the mat gasping like a fish out of water feeling lightheaded, dizzy, and ready to puke. I felt like a special olympian with my performance and I hated Justin for talking me into going.

There are a lot of ways to measure improvement and improvement comes slower than any of us would like. For me, personally, I know that I will continue to make progress if I put enough intensity into the workouts, put aside the need for immediate gratification, and stick with it.

The main CrossFit site has a lot of good info on nutrition, recovery, and intensity. Actually, it has a lot of good info in general and is a pretty good place for more motivation (message board, WOD/exercise demo videos, etc). I’m jealous that Matt, Joe, and Trish went to the certification. :D http://www.crossfit.com/
